- Following the extraction of a baby or primary tooth, a small amount of
bleeding
from the socket can be expected for approximately 1-2 hours. During that
time,
your child should bite firmly on gauze and remain relatively inactive.
- For 24 hours following the extraction, your child should be on a soft
diet (soup, cooked vegetables, Jello and liquids). Especially avoid nuts,
popcorn, chips, pretzels, nachos and drinking through a straw. Carbonated
beverages should be avoided.
- When the anesthetic begins to wear off (1-2 hours) give your child a
regular dose of Tylenol (no aspirin) if he has any discomfort at the
extraction site. If an unusual amount of discomfort is anticipated, a
stronger medication will be prescribed. Take as directed.
- Avoid using toothpaste and brushing near the socket for the next 24
hours. PLEASE do not hesitate to call our office (755-5400) if you have
any questions
or concerns.
