What to do After
Gum Treatments - Deep Scaling
|
|
- The next two weeks after your deep
scale are critical. Healing gum tissue is very susceptible to
bacterial (germ) growth on the tooth roots. Your teeth need to
be cleaned thoroughly twice daily, to keep this bacteria under
control. (If plaque
bacteria is left undisturbed for 24 hours, it forms a more
tissue destructive bacteria family.)
- During this "tender tissue"
stage, you may also be offered a prescription anti-bacterial
rinse. If PERIDEX™ ORAL RINSE has been prescribed,
please start with 1/2 oz. of PERIDEX™ for the prescribed
time, then spit it out. Do not rinse, drink, or eat anything
for as long as possible after rinsing because PERIDEX™ works
by soaking into your tissues and is then slowly released into
your tissues and is then slowly released into the saliva to
kill bacteria. Continue usage until your next tissue check in
two to four weeks.
- Do not eat until the Novocaine wears
off (about an hour or so).
- When the Novocaine wears off, rinse
your mouth with warm salt water unless PERIDEX™ has been
recommended, then use the prescription. Use 1 tbsp. of salt, 8
oz. of warm water, stir well and swish around entire amount.
If you have High Blood Pressure, use EPSON SALT.
- You may take Ibuprofen/Motrin for any tenderness that may follow the
procedure.
- Your teeth may be sensitive to
"hot and/or "cold". To reduce this, use
"Sensodyne™" or "Denquel™" toothpaste.
Fluoride rinses are also beneficial in
reducing the sensitivity.
